Recording

The studio is a converted bedroom in my house in Corvallis, with acoustic panels, a futon and LED lights you can set however you like. It's not a grand space, but it works well for vocals and individual instruments.

Starting at $75/hour

Tell me

  • What you want to record, and roughly how many parts
  • Any demo that shows where the song is going
  • When you'd like to come in

What you get back

  • Your multitracks and a rough bounce, the same week

Sessions are quoted up front. A 50% deposit holds your spot, and the rest is due before I send final files.

How a session goes

I set up and organize the session before you get here. When you arrive, we go through what we're recording and how, what you want in your headphones, and whether you want a click. Then we take each part one by one. I like putting down a scratch version of every part first, so we have the structure of the song before we try to refine anything.

Forgetting you're recording

People get in their own heads when they're recording and can hear themselves back. When I helped produce vocals for my a cappella group, a lot of the job was helping everyone feel like they were back in the garage where we rehearsed. At my day job, I want people to forget the microphones are there and feel like they're talking in a living room. It's the same idea here.

What doesn't fit

I can't really record a full band here, and a full drum kit probably wouldn't work either. For anything bigger, we can rent a studio and I can record or produce you there.

Recording from home

If you're not nearby, I can coach you through recording vocals at home over video. I'll help you set your levels and coach you through the takes the same way I would in person.

Where is the studio?

Southtown, Corvallis, with free street parking nearby. I send the exact address when you book.

What should I know before I come over?

The studio is upstairs and carpeted, so we prefer no shoes up there, though we can make exceptions. I have a friendly dog who sheds a fair amount, so tell me if you have allergies. Please don't knock or ring the bell, because that's the one thing that sets him off. The door will be unlocked, and I'll probably be waiting outside the first time you come.

Can you mix it afterward?

Yes. Mixing and mastering are quoted separately.

Want to book some time?

Tell me what you're recording and when you're free. We'll talk before you book, and if I don't think I can help, I'll say so.
